Mimaki Latex Ink

Eco-conscious and versatile ink!

High image representation expands possibilities for signage printing.

A water-based Mimaki latex ink has been developed by concentrating Mimaki’s technologies, without losing the vibrant color and high color reproducibility of solvent inks. Resins contained in the latex ink are dissolved by heat and form a membrane to firmly fix pigments to the surface of the media. The latex ink allows for printing on a wide range of materials including PVC, paper, fabric, and PET film without the ink absorbing layer, which is typically difficult to print on with solvent ink. Eco-conscious low VOC* formulation latex ink does not require special ventilation in the workplace; therefore, it reduces any adverse operator health effects.

Latex ink [LX101] gained the “GREENGUARD Gold” certification by UL LLC of third-party institution of safety science of the United States.

Environmental advantages: low-VOC ink and ozone-free LED–UV light

The color components of the ink are directly cured and adhered to the media or substrate by UV radiation, and the ink emits very low levels of VOC (volatile organic carbon). The LED (light-emitting diode) light does not radiate short wavelengths that generate ozone. Use of Mimaki UV-curable ink demonstrates consciousness about the environment and the health of users.

Mechanism of UV- curable ink adhesion

Mimaki released LED–UV-curable inks ahead of other global competitors

Mimaki first adopted the use of LED light to solve all the problems associated with metal halide lamps, such as long warm-up or restrike times, high power consumption, large bulbs, short lamp life, and high temperatures. The LED–UV ink curing system not only provides high quality printing with speed but also meets various demands from users with high media compatibility.

Energy saving and long life

The power consumption and heat generation of LED lights are remarkably lower than those of metal halide lamps. In addition to energy and cost saving, the long-life LED light reduces lamp wastage because of replacements.

High media compatibility with low heat generation

Thanks to the low heat generation of LED–UV light, Mimaki UV ink is capable of printing vibrant and beautiful colors on heat-sensitive materials, such as acrylic board, PVC, PET, etc.

High-speed printing

High-speed printing at 60 m2/h with vibrant and fine print results is achieved. We have been developing inks and printers for years, and hence have been able to focus our technologies for obtaining the best results from both.

Mimaki’s unique head control technology delivers smooth gradation printing

Smooth and beautiful gradation printing is available due to the excellent color reproducibility of the inks as well as by the use of Mimaki’s inkjet technology.

Offering hard and soft ink types for a wide range of applications

Hard and soft ink types are provided. Hard inks are used on the surfaces of hard materials, such as plates. Soft and flexible inks are suited for membrane panels, films, vehicle-wrapping films, and packaging films. Mimaki UV inks have high media compatibility for a wide range of applications.

White and clear inks enable a wide variety of print expressions

White ink is used as the base layer for color printing. The white base layer enhances color printing on transparent media.

■ Color printing without white ink base layer

Because of the high light transmittance of the media, printed colors are not very vivid.

■ White ink base layer with color printing

The printed image is bright and vivid on the white ink base layer.

Embossed printing is also available by combining the use of a primer with color inks. The UV ink broadens the range of possible print designs.

Mimaki Solvent Ink

ImageTech is a leading California authorized seller, servicer, and installer of Mimaki large format solvent printers. As part of our commitment to Mimaki customers, we carry a complete line of OEM Mimaki Solvent inks, as well hard-to-find solvent and UV media, papers, vinyl, and wraps. For competitive pricing and quick turn-around, we offer:

Excellent weatherability and rub-fastness! The standard ink for beautiful indoor and outdoor signage.

In the ink, the pigment is dispersed in an organic solvent, and thus the ink is quick drying due to the volatility of the solvent. This property enables direct printing onto PVC, which are extensively used for both indoor and outdoor signage and displays. In addition to excellent weatherability and rub-fastness, our unique inkjet technology provides super-high picture quality without a granular appearance. Furthermore, “ease of maintenance” and “cost effectiveness” are also favorable features of this ink. Mimaki solvent inks are reputed worldwide for their beautiful long-lasting nature and are used as a standard ink for signage printing.
Solvent ink [SS21] and [BS4] gained the “GREENGUARD Gold” certification by UL LLC of third-party institution of safety science of the United States.

Fine and high quality image reproducibility

From text and illustrations to photographs and backgrounds with gradations, the combination of Mimaki’s unique inkjet technology and solvent ink delivers vibrant and less-granular super high quality print results.

Mechanism of the solvent ink adhesion

Direct printing onto PVC

The solvent ink enables direct printing onto PVC, the most popular media for signage display printing, as well as on non-ink-receptive layer coating media. Mimaki solvent ink ensures signage and display production that is cost effective.

White and silver inks broaden expressiveness of the prints

Simultaneous layer printing is very effective on transparent media; color printing on white underlayers gives a more vivid impression. In addition, the combination of full color ink with silver ink allows a more vibrant expression of the metallic colors such as gold, silver, and bronze.

Excellent weatherability and rub-fastness!

The solvent ink prints are ideal for outdoor signage. The prints show little fading/degradation because of direct sunlight, and have high weatherability in rain/snow, and they also have high rub-fastness.
* Depending on print media, laminating may be needed, please contact us for details beforehand.

Weather resistance data by ink type (SS21, ES3)

SS21 and ES3 both showed very little fading even when in an accelerated test equivalent to 3 years. (In-house study)

World’s First Solvent UV Ink(SU100)

New technology has further improved the durability of the solvent ink and has enabled the printing time to be markedly reduced.
This inkjet printing technology with a solvent UV ink was first developed by Mimaki in 2013.
The pigment is adhered by volatilization of the solvent components and quick drying by UV curing to provide a glossy finish. Thus, work efficiency has been dramatically increased and the rub-fastness has also been improved.
The ink cures immediately upon printing, meaning that drying time is not needed and an immediate transition to the processing stage is possible.

No drying time needed! Prints are ready to be processed right after the print!

The solvent UV ink is both cured and adhered at the time of printing; thus, drying time need not be considered. Secondary processing such as lamination can be performed immediately after printing, which significantly improves process efficiency.

A product range designed for a particular purpose and environment of use

We have developed a broad product range that includes the following inks:
High solvent-type ink has excellent durability and is ideal for outdoor signage (HS ink). Low solvent-type ink that is in high demand for the production of signs and displays for both indoor and outdoor use(SS21 ink). Eco-friendly ink that does not require any special ventilation facility (ES3 ink). The solvent UV ink (SUV ink) offers a new approach for the expression of signs.

Ease of use and maintenance for users

No need for specialist machine operation or maintenance, very easy to handle.
Another major advantage is the wide range of available printers, which range from high-end to affordable entry models.

Latest in 3D Printing at Makers Faire: Mimaki 3DUJ-P

ImageTech will be attending the Maker Faire this weekend (May 19-21, San Mateo Event Center in California) to demonstrate Mimaki printers, cutters, and the company’s new 3D UV-cure inkjet printer prototype.  Mimaki USA is a leading manufacturer of wide-format inkjet printers.  You can find us at the Mimaki booth in Zone 2.  Download the event program [here].

In 2015, Mimaki Engineering (Nagano, Japan) announced it would enter the 3D printer business and started its own full color, 3D printer development. After initial rounds that received positive reviews along with further development, the company is now in the commercialization phase of this product. This technology preview of the provisionally named 3DUJ-P printer follows its worldwide debut at JapanShop, held March 7-10 in Tokyo, where it received an enthusiastic reception due to the advanced differentiation of Mimaki’s technology in 3D printing. ImageTech is a distributor of large-format professional printing technology in the USA.

Key highlights of the Mimaki 3DUJ-P

  • More than 10 million possible color combinations
While 3D inkjet printing technology is relatively new, most 3D printers use binder jetting technology, an additive manufacturing process in which a liquid binding agent is selectively deposited to join powder particles. However, binder-jetting technology is limited in the number of available color combinations. Because of Mimaki’s extensive experience in inkjet printing and based on a patent obtained by the company in 2009, the 3DUJ-P printer will use a full-color UV-cure method that enables unprecedented 3D modeling, yielding vibrant colors and high definition imaging.

  • Mimaki technology combined with high quality modeling
Mimaki’s printer and ink technologies enable high quality 3D printing that can create products that are delicate, extremely precise and incredibly realistic.

  • Clear ink enhances product variations
The 3DUJ-P printer is also able to utilize clear inks that can be jetted independently or combined with colored ink to create translucent objects. Additionally, Mimaki’s technology utilizes clear ink to create a glossy finish, thereby making the underlying colors more vibrant.
  • Unique support material for hassle-free finishing
Unlike many other 3D materials, the Mimaki water-soluble support material does not require lye or other harsh chemicals but is easily removed with water alone. Easy removal of the support material means that end users can create models and products with fine details and intricate designs without affecting the final design.
